Course Descriptions

Primary academics (also called pilot ground school) is the fundamental building block for all future flight training. Identical to ground training courses taught at aviation universities, our ground school course teaches the all the subject areas required by Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Certain courses are eligible for college credit if the student takes the course in conjunction with a degree program.

PPGSC (3cr) Fundamentals of Aeronautics/Private Pilot Ground School (10 Weeks)
 

This is an introductory aviation course which provides students with the aeronautical knowledge required to perform the duties of a pilot-in-command as a private pilot. The following subjects are covered in sufficient detail to meet the regulatory requirements of Title 14 CFR:

  • Theory of Flight
  • Airplane Aerodynamics
  • Aircraft Components and Systems
  • Aviation Regulations
  • Human Factors and Aviation Safety
  • Basic Meteorology
  • Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM)
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM) Principles
  • Airspace
  • Cross-Country Planning
  • Air Traffic Control
  • Airport Operations and Radio Communications
IPGSC (3cr) Instrument Flight Operations (8 Weeks)
 

This is an intermediate level training course designed to prepare students to operate within the National Airspace System (NAS) as an instrument rated pilot. The following subjects are covered in sufficient detail to meet the regulatory requirements of Title 14 CFR:

  • Basic Instrument Flight
  • Aircraft Systems and Instrumentation
  • Instrument Flying Regulations
  • Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Flight Planning
  • Flight Information Publications
  • National Airspace System (NAS) and Air Traffic Control (ATC)
CPGSC (3cr) Commercial Flight Operations (8 Weeks)
 

This is an advanced training course which provides students with the sufficient knowledge of the aeronautical subject areas required to earn a commercial pilot certificate. The following subjects are covered in sufficient detail to meet the regulatory requirements of Title 14 CFR:

  • Commercial Flight Operations
  • Advanced Aviation Safety and Human Factors Concepts
  • Weight and Balance and Aircraft Performance
  • Advanced CRM and ADM Concepts
  • High Altitude Flight
  • High Performance Aircraft Operations
  • Commercial Aviation Regulations
  • Adverse Weather Operations
  • Passenger Carrying Operations
